Designing For The Majority

I wrote and rewrote this blog so many times that honestly I’m exhausted just thinking about it. As a designer who has designed for both straight and plus size it is disheartening to me that a lot of other designers have not even entertained the idea of designing for women over a size 8. Size 8? Really? Even though a size 8 would never grace their runway, lookbook or website…sigh. The average American woman’s size is a 14. Let’s be real. Women under a size, let’s say 10, have hundreds of thousands of options (I don’t think I’m exaggerating) when it comes to shopping for clothes. On the other hand plus size women can probably count on one hand the brick and mortar stores they can shop at. The younger generation of trendy full-figured women usually mix and match from different straight size stores that offer pieces that may run a little larger than that particular store’s usual selection. Ask one of these young women “What’s your favorite plus size brand?” and chances are they won’t have an answer for you. They like a few items from this brand and a few items from that brand, but can’t identify with a line that is consistent in their efforts to offer stylish quality garments. Go figure…

Ace Blakley is on its way to being that brand. The brand that women can trust to provide them with contemporary styles that cater to the young, sophisticated, chic and edgy. Offering sizes Ace-Ace3 (large-3x).

Our online store launches November 1, 2015. Please sign up for our mailing list to receive locations and dates for our international trunk show tour.
